Our daycare program is based on the premise that children learn best through play and themes are developed to meet the needs and interest of the children in our care. The children are given lots of opportunity to have free play to explore and learn at their own pace and are never pressured to participate in group activities if they do not wish. The themes are chosen either by the teacher, for seasonal or celebratory weeks, or by the children, based on their emerging interest and life experiences. Each theme is used to enhance our ongoing learning of letters, number, colours and other skills the children may need to be successful later in school. Sign language and other language development techniques are used with the infants and toddlers to reduce frustration and encourage communication and speech. Self help and independence are a big part of the program at Building Blocks, these are necessary skills for a child to succeed in school. Throughout the day the children are given opportunities to practice skills to become more independent.
